Week 3 – applique technique
In week 3, I learned about a sewing technique called applique. This is a popular decorative technique that allows you to create designs with depth and color on the surface of the fabric.
To start, I prepared a piece of patterned fabric . Then, I placed the glue side of the cut interfacing on the wrong side of the patterned fabric, then placed it between two pieces of wax paper to prevent the glue from dripping onto the iron. Using an iron, dry iron the glue onto the patterned fabric. Once the glue has cooled, I used sharp scissors to cut exactly along the outline I had drawn on the paper. I peeled the backing paper off the back of the fabric, placed the patterned fabric in the desired position on the base fabric, and used an iron to iron the fabric. The heat will activate the glue, firmly adhering the pattern to the base fabric. Finally, I used the same technique I used on the sewing machine last time to sew along the edge.

My product

I used denim and cut out star patterns because it was from the Y2K style which is quite popular right now (There are many kpop groups that are using this style) and I’m impressed with it. Plus, I can remove any bad stitches or seams I don’t like with a seam ripper. I used different sewing patterns because I didn’t have a chance to try them the week before.
