Week 2 – Texture

This is a swatch page I made in class, i learned abbbout the texture og various different materials and many way to drawn.

I knew that painting bricks and stones wouldn’t work without first determining the correct perspective and curvature of the window frame and base. I spent a lot of time on alignment and measuring to be able to paint the brick texture realistically.

The knitted fabric study was a dificult class in rendering softness and volume through repetitive pattern. I discovered that realistic fabric texture relies not just on drawing the loops, but on carefully shading the ridges and troughs of the knit to suggest the way light hits the fibers.

It was really hard to depict the gravel parts on the surface of the road, I tried many ways but still couldn’t get better. I realized that the sharpness of the details should have been drawn more meticulously, and should have used more pencil colors instead of the soft pastels I used. I’m still having trouble using soft pastels.
