ILS1ARTA

Week 1 – Introduction

  • Section 1:

To introduce to the session, Bhavik gave us some questions. I answered 5 questions using notes on Canva.

Answering the sixth question: Why do you want to study the course you have chosen? What do you already know about this course?

Before choosing landscape architecture as my major now, I had changed my thoughts a lot. I wanted to be a graphic designer, webtoon artist or fashion designer(I found out that my personality does not suit to become a fashion designer), but I ended up choosing landscape architecture for some reasons. It starts with my childhood dream that I can have my own house which has a big garden, many trees and a small pond. I want to design all of this by myself. Then, when I grow up, I think that I can choose a major that I can not only design a house for myself but also I can design for other people, social and community, especially my country, Vietnam. I want to develop the natural landscape of Vietnam which still holds the natural view combined with modern styles.I already know some basic drawing and using color techniques , because I studied a drawing class for about 3 months in my 11th grade. This helps me know how to draw 3D shapes in a basic way. I am not really inspired by any artists to choose my major, it actually comes from my dream and my aspirations for the future. However, I’m interested in the vibe of team LAVA+ , Aspects studio, and studio Ghibli(an anime studio, but I really like the landscape in their anime films). The reasons why I like team LAVA+ is they have a biomimicry and futuristic forms, they generate complex natural texture in computers. For Aspects studio, they focus heavily on urban design, and social infrastructure. Studio Ghibli has many masterpieces in environmental design, they vividly depict natural materials based on light and texture.Plus, I also Japanese architectural works such as The He Art Museum.  After semester 1, I developed my own drawing skills in both using pencils and colors. I evolved my digital skills by using Photoshop and Indesign for my final outcome, I also level up my 3D models making skills which I barely did before. For my BA course, I think I will learn more about the softwares(AutoCad, Photoshop and Illustrators) and techniques(light, texture, movement) necessary for a landscape architect. I want to become proficient in AutoCAD, as knowing how to use it is very important for architects in both their work and studies. I also have to learn about the inspirations for which I research many artists to find my own style. Then I will learn about the theory and history which show how humans have shaped the land over centuries. I am really excited to know more about this, because I am curious about the social, religious and functional impact on landscapes and buildings.

Here are some of my notes from my first ILSART class. I took notes about the assessments and some other important things.

  • Section 2:

I learnt some new reflection models such as Gibbs Reflective Cycle, The Driscoll model of reflection and The CARR Model of Reflection. I already knew Gibbs Reflectice Cycle in last semester, so I want to try something new. I chose The CARR Model of Reflection, I have highlighted parts of the CARR model such as context = yellow, action = blue, result = red and reflection = green. Bhavik helps me to undestand more about CARR model by fixing my highlight parts.
