Art101
Week 1:
Today, I identify the Research → Record → Respond cycle. This reflects a lot on my approach to creativity. Before, I just liked to dive headfirst into practice and creativity because some of my ideas came out of nowhere; I didn’t often keep track of what I was doing or working on at the time. I think I need to change my habits and start recording and reflecting on what I do. This is necessary for the course and my future career. It’s only been a few days since the semester started, and I already see so many tasks and work I need to do. I’m starting to feel stressed.
Week 2:
This week I started doing artist responses for artist Claude Lorrain, which took me two days of experimentation and responses. While the results weren’t perfect, it helped me gain more experience using acrylics and watercolors. I volunteered to be the first to present for my artist research project, but I was still quite nervous and my voice wasn’t clear; there were many parts I couldn’t explain even though I understood what I was doing. I hope to improve this semester.
Week 3:
This week’s class was just Bhavik and me, and we talked a lot about the workload. I’ve tried to finish everything, but it just keeps piling up. It’s incredibly stressful. I think I’ll have to stay up all night for several nights in the coming weeks. It’s hard to imagine how I’ll survive exhibition week. I hope I stay healthy enough not to miss any classes.
Week 4:
Happy Lunar New Year, Today’s lesson wasn’t anything special; Bhavik uploaded a checklist for us to review what we had and hadn’t done. In addition, we had a library tutorial where I was shown how to use the school’s library website and how to borrow books and laptops. Although I already knew some of this, as I study at the library quite often, the tutorial was still very useful.
Week 5:
I received a lot of feedback about WordPress and my critical analysis of artwork. The feedback included both good and bad comments, but it was necessary for me to develop my research and analytical skills. I started to find research quite interesting. However, these past few weeks I have been very busy, constantly staying up late working on assignments. I have been late partly because of traffic and having to buy coffee. I swear I can not live without caffeine, even though it is not good for me to use too much. I will switch to coffee candies so I do not have to be late waiting for coffee. Because I am so exhausted with deadlines and workload, I have started booking Uber to go to class more often than walking.
Week 6:
Before class, I arrived about 30 minutes early to start the time management session with Bhavik. It supports work-life balance for ILSART’s PDP. Bhavik helped me a lot. Trying to do everything as much as possible was not effective and caused me to procrastinate a lot. In class, we discussed critical analysis, which is very important for this module. This module is mainly about research, including critical analysis. I started taking research more seriously.
Week 7:
In today’s session, Bhavik got a little bit mad at me because I hadn’t completed the statement of intent for this module. This worried me a bit. But we had only just finished assessment A for ILSART, and I couldn’t understand where I would find the time to complete the statement of intent; it was unbelievable. Luckily, I had chosen artists and artwork for my research. Throughout the session, I just read information and filtered it for the statement of intent. Reading and absorbing information was quite interesting as I learned many new concepts and definitions while doing research, it made me feel excited. Maybe research isn’t as bad as I used to think. I used to be someone who absolutely hated research. If research were a person, I would stay at least 2km away from them.
Week 8:
This week I’m mainly talking about the primary research I did in week 7. It was so much fun having the chance to visit the V&A Museum, Hydepark, the National Gallery, and Jubilee Garden. I wanted to go more, but since I went on a Saturday, the closing times were a bit earlier than usual. I got a lot of inspiration for my final outcome. I haven’t updated my WordPress for the past few weeks because after returning from London I was too tired to do anything. It’s unbelievable that I walked 17km on the London trip. We drew five sketches in 10 minutes and talked about them. They were about the main objects in our final outcome.
Week 9:
I arrived 15 minutes early for class because Bhavik usually comes early to prepare for the lesson. I received feedback on my WordPress and statement of intent. Bhavik was mad at me because I got caught by AI in my statement of intent. The reason was that I used Google Translate for my writing. Actually, there were quite a few technical terms I did not know, and I did not know how to properly describe my thinking in English. I was a little disappointed and angry with myself.
