Week 5: Personal Brief + Time Plan
Project Title: ecosystem park
I. Aims:
• What is your project aiming to achieve?
My purpose to do this project is to redevelop a green park that integrates various technologies to serve and improve human life while protecting nature, in addition to addressing climate change in today’s urbanized era.
• What do you want to do?
I want to create a space that can erase a gap between humans and the environment.
• What will you explore?
I will explore how sustainable green infrastructure (like smart water management or renewable energy elements) can be seamlessly blended with ecological planting to create a resilient, functional urban landscape.
II. How/what will you do to achieve these aims:
• How will you use the workshops?
I will use the workshops to create digital models that can help me model the actual product more intelligently. In addition, I will use sketches to create designs and test their suitability for application within the overall plan.
• Collect images?
I will do primarily research by photographing existing urban green spaces, applying compositional techniques like the Rule of Thirds to document how people currently interact with the environment and to identify areas lacking ecological integration.
• Research artists? Which ones? What books are helpful?
I will do research about LAVA and Aspect Studios will provide inspiration for integrating cutting-edge technology and bio-morphic design into public spaces. I will study Kongjian Yu for his pioneering “Sponge City” concept, which is crucial for urban flood management, water filtration, and ecological restoration. Additionally, examining the playful but highly functional master planning of West 8 and the urban regeneration projects led by Richard Kennedy of James Corner Field Operations (such as their work transforming obsolete infrastructure into thriving public ecosystems) will guide my approach.
• What experiments will you do?
I will do some model-making by using cardboard which I plan to do on a large scale.
• What techniques will you try and explore?
I will combine Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to create rendered, atmospheric perspectives.
III. Context:
• What inspires you?
The urgent need for climate resilience in cities inspires me. I am driven by the idea that landscape design can go beyond aesthetics to be actively functional, cleaning the air, managing urban heat, and supporting biodiversity, while still acting as a beautiful sanctuary for people.
• Project Outcomes:does it relate to the theme of Journey? How The Journey is both physical and temporal. Physically, it is the user’s path through the park, experiencing the transition between high-tech ecological solutions and raw nature. Temporally, it represents the journey of an urban space adapting to climate change.
