Because I dont have time to colour all of my models, so I colour the sketches instead. I think I should add more trees for my models because I am doing the theme about environment.

My final outcome

Evaluation and presentation

This semester, my final outcome is about redesigning Prado Park to serve the citizens and develop the environment. My outcome inspired my journey in art by showing me the process of developing an actual project has many aspects. For example, I had to research the context of the area, the needs of the surrounding citizens and climate before I started designing. It does not only end at researching, but also making 3D models.

I focussed mainly on the process of how I did experiments with the material, cardboard and foam. I found it easy to practice with cardboard because I have had previous experience working with the materials. This semester I developed my previous knowledge which has made me work with the material in greater depth. But working with foam was difficult because this semester was the first time I practiced with foam. Cutting the material did not turn out smoothly. To solve this, I kept practicing working with the foam until I got used to it.  I used glue to stick and connect pieces together on the materials, different types of glue make different impacts of sticking. For example, the power glue of Uhu glue made foam melt, but the adhesive glue of Uhu did not make it. In parallel, I also develop on translating a concept from a painting into a fully realized 3D space which I sketch every concept and ideas down before making 3D. This allowed me to follow the frame of models well.

This project connected directly to making models sessions. I applied the skills such as shaping or cutting from that I develop ideas from using many types of material which can support each other. I am really enjoying the period I spent on the process of creating terrain models that transform masses of objects into a vibrant visual experience. It helps to get used to the material before I come to the BA course where I have to make models a lot. However, I thought I would complete my models perfectly in colour and decorations, It took more time than I expected. If I could redo it again, I would start it earlier.

At the beginning, I thought that the project of Ho Chi Minh central would affect my outcome extendly, but after doing the research Kongjian Yu and his projects affected me more, especially his sponge city. I could not make the most of it because the location I chose has more sunny days than rainy days. However, it brings me many ideas for both the present and the future. If I could do it again, I would utilize my time to research more types of plants to create plant communities. Besides, I also really like the research of West 8, it broadens my view that a park can have that playful design with undulating mounds.

In the workshop, my skills have grown in both sketching and model making. I learnt how to generate my sketches into 3D. I have improved my sketching skills so that I can both draw detailed sketches and do quick sketches to generate my ideas. For my 3D models, I can make models faster than I did last semester. For example, last semester I spent 8 hours just to finish 2 small models of bottle and jar but this semester I finished 1 big and 1 small models in 8 hours.

My biggest challenge this semester is time management. I spent too much time on research (but this is what I enjoyed the most), causing me to not have enough time for making models. I did not overcome my challenge 100% but I did take experience and improve it. I made to-do lists, prioritised which tasks are more necessary and put a time limit for each task.
